Patient Case Studies
Cosmetic Surgery Case Studies by the McLean Acadamy
Please note: all the below case studies are of real people in actual circumstances. in order to hide the identity of the persons concerned their details have been changed to reflect this.

Case Study 1 : 30 Year Old Housewife. Bilateral Breast Augmentation

Mrs T was a housewife in her 30's who "felt flat chested". She had been like this since a teenager and was embarrassed to take her clothes off in front of her husband or to go swimming with her children at the local pool.

She attended the Out Patient Clinic in mid 2007 for advice on bilateral breast augmentation. She then went home to discuss the matter with her husband and read several small fact Sheets on the operation and breast implants.

She could not decide whether she wished surgery or not and again returned later that year for a further consultation and decided to proceed with surgery around Christmastime. She chose anatomical Cohesive gel implants, post operatively she progressed uneventfully and at her most recent Out-patient visit both she and her husband were delighted with the result.

She herself feels much happier and is more confident. She now has no fears about taking her clothes off in front of her husband or wearing a bathing suit. Her operation has been a complete success

Case Study 2 : 50 Year Old Housewife. MACS Face Lift

Mrs J was a housewife in her late 50's who felt her face and jowls "were heavy and sinking". She was seen in early 2007 and we had a full discussion on all aspects of cosmetic surgery and medicine related to facial ageing. One of her main problems was "smoker's lines" around the mouth and at the time of initial presentation she was smoking around 20-25 cigarettes per day. She was strongly advised to stop smoking as this has a detrimental effect on wound healing. Having stopped smoking she returned for a further consultation and surgery was arranged later that year and she underwent a MACS face lift (minimal access cranial suspension) and had CO2 laser treatment to her mouth.

Post operatively she progressed well but unfortunately began smoking in the early post operative period. This led to some slowness of one of her facial wounds to heal. Fortunately this has now completely settled and she has again stopped smoking.

She is delighted with the result and feels that the operation has significantly improved her quality of life. She informed me she "wished I had had the operation done years ago".

Case Study 3 : 43 Year Old Lady. MACS Short Scar Face and Neck Lift

Mrs D is a 43 year old lady who came to the clinic complaining "that my face has dropped". Clinically there was a large fatty deposit below her chin with drooping of the jowls. She underwent a MACS short scar face and neck lift with liposuction to the submental region under her chin. Post operatively she progressed uneventfully, her facial bruising settled within a couple of weeks and the swelling had disappeared by around 4-6 weeks and the operation has had a significant effect on improving her quality of life.

Case Study 4 : 50 Year Old Lady. Body Jet Liposculpture

Mrs C was a 50 year old lady who attended the Out patient clinic complaining of an abdominal bulge. She had experienced difficulty purchasing clothes and the bulge was affecting her self-esteem.

She worked out regularly at the Gym, was not overweight and had excellent abdominal muscle tone. Clinical examination showed that she had some excess fatty tissue in the central abdominal area and following a full discussion she decided to have Body Jet Liposculpture to the area. By her choice this was done under a general anaesthetic and a total of almost 3lts of fat was aspirated. Post operatively she progressed uneventfully, she had mild bruising and some firmness of the abdominal wall. The bruising settled within a couple of weeks and the firmness by 7 months post operatively.

The procedure has completely changed her quality of life and she is now able to wear any items of clothing and her self-esteem has been greatly boosted by the operation
